About Us

In 2003, a representative Vision Task Force was convened to explore how to be a viable Dayton Catholic Urban Presence (CUP). After significant dialogue, research, and prayer, the faith communities committed themselves to becoming two Pastoral Regions serving the urban area of Dayton, Ohio.

The CUP group further chose to give witness to its Catholic faith by sharing resources to build an educational community that reaches out to all people in a variety of neighborhoods.

The CUP plan evolved after nearly three years of study, assessments, prayer, comparisons, input, and many hours of work by hundreds of people from the seven parishes involved.

From this grass roots group looking to find ways to keep a Catholic presence alive in the urban neighborhoods evolved Mary Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Six urban schools  (Corpus Christi, Holy Family, Our Lady of Mercy, Queen of Martyrs, St.Mary,  Resurrection, and Dayton  Catholic Elementary) representing several parishes  were closed at the end of the 2005-2006 school year. What was formed was one new diocesan school at two campuses, the Homewood Campus and the Gramont Campus that opened for the 2006 -2007 school year.

Mary Queen of Peace Catholic School is the name selected by the students for the new school. Combining six urban schools into this new one will enable this school to celebrate diversity, share resources, and see our Catholic school in a more truly "catholic" ( universal) and inclusive perspective.

Transitional changes will occur in the upcoming school year (2010 -2011) at Mary Queen of Peace. Student and staff adjustments were made in order to focus upon student educational needs. Campuses will be divided according to grade levels.  Pre-K students thru Grade 3 will attend the Gramont Campus and Grade 4 thru 8 will attend Homewood Campus.
